it's a small [racial lego] world

This has been nagging my brain for like, over 20 years now.

When I was a kid I was confused by the terms white, black, red, yellow (ok, brown made some sense) especially in light of my Crayola 64 pack. And how I would use "peach" to color in a white Barbie and a "copper" to color in her black friend in my coloring book.
I mean, why didn't we call ourselves "peach" instead of white?
Well ok, maybe "white" is better marketing if you're a eugenicist, or whatever, but when I was 6, that wasn't part of my curriculum.
