I prefer storage roots to tubers, thank you.

I debated whether I should create this post, because it's silly, even for me. But I came across a site, while looking up vitamin facts on sweet potatoes, from the great state of Texas and I found the Yam vs. Sweet Potato comparison facinating.
Thank you Texas A&M for giving insight to my dinner planning.

Art.com can kiss it!

Are you like me, frustrated with the ho-hum wall/print art selection in stores and online?
Woe no more, my friends.
The remedy is Thumbtack Press

I love it and I can't wait for a major holiday to arrive so I can request some of their art as gifts. ;)

I decided to start early because I had so many photos.

Another Beanie Babie falls prey to the baby.  Posted by Picasa

For 5.99 at Target you too can get baby sunglasses and have fun in the backyard. Posted by Picasa

If you look closely you can see the abence of old building materials next to the addition, taken away thanks to Pile Week. Posted by Picasa

Mom, enough with the camera already, I'm tired. Posted by Picasa

She was not pleased. Posted by Picasa

This was just before we left for the museum on Saturday. How cute are those pants?! Shout out to Aunt Norma for the Tommy sweater.  Posted by Picasa

We're squinty- it was sunny even in the shade. Posted by Picasa

Baby C was "helping" me sort the sewing supplies. This strip of fabric made a great head scarf.  Posted by Picasa

It was a good weekend at sea

Alright, we didn't sail anywhere, but I did see the sea, if the bay counts.
We visited the spankin' new DeYoung Museum to view the Arts and Crafts exhibit and incidentally a strange art flower competition.
(We were pleased to see many other hip families with babies there too)
If the art and flowers weren't enough to entertain, there was people watching galore.

It's also Pile Week! I posted about it last year, but this year's highlights include the following wax and wane of public goods:
+I picked up a glassless curio cabinet from a neighboring house. I refer to them as the cupcake neighbors, because when we got married, they brought us chocolate cupcakes and said our yard looked nice.
+I also snagged a little nightstand from a house around the corner so stealthily that the family in the garage didn't even notice. It has the same motif as my parents' bedroom suite from 1986, but the qualities I seek in a pile-swag are cleanliness and sturdiness, not beauty. New paint can absolve most style sins.
-We rid ourelves of plenty of crapola, for which I'm unsure whether I should be proud or ashamed. Roll call- tacky fireplace facade, rusted mountain bike, spent florescent light tubes, broken dishwasher, torchiere lamps (which a nice couple drove up and ganked soon after I put them out)sliding doors from the pre-construction closet and other unwanted sundries.
I just love Pile Week, it brings the community together, binding us by our cheapness and love for the hunt.

We were also little ziggy piggies this weekend.
We ordered pizza (that is always a thrill for me: make a call and a man will bring food to your door!), I grilled steaks, and we ate Mexican food from our favrorite place. I love food.

And right now Kevin and I are playing Yahoo Games' version of Scrabble and as always Kevin keeps beating me, but last game I used the word "POOP" twice, and that was a victory in itself.

I can't believe I didn't do this earlier

I give you the Boppy, before and after-

Before:

Ugh, so ugly. I mean, it's probably cute for other people. But for me, it's ugly. I would hide it when I wasn't using it. And when i was using it, it made me feel ugly.

And here it is after:

It's amazing what a little silver crushed velvet and a zipper can do. I can't wait to use it now.

help Richard Hambleton!

My mother's husband's name is Richard Hambleton, he is a grandfather of three and he has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
He has smoked over 30 years and has tried to stop before, but today he is still a smoker.
This year for mother's day we are buying my mom a treatment program to help her stop smoking and we thought it would only be fair to have them both quit. But we've only got so much cash to push around.

So as you might have noticed, there is a Paypal donate button on my sidebar for those who would like to help him kick the habit.
We all love Rich and want to see him get better.

As they say, no donation is too small.

spring spruce up

As you may have noticed, I changed my banner, but I'm still working on it.
I'm incredibly impatient, so I had to thow down what I had so far.
The banner is frought with symbolism, frought I tell you.

take that, name doubters!

Thanks to Aurora for bringing this validating video clip!

this is not the way it should work

The baby has begun arbitrarily screaming, really loud.
It can mean that she's upset but often it's just a statement as if to say "Hey, I can scream."
I realize lots of children scream. But those kids know the word "no," or the concept of "if you keep screaming, I will _____."
But she doesn't.
I think I'm losing my hearing.
