wow, really late Baby Tuesday!

Can you tell that I have overbooked myself and totally spaced on Baby Tue?

If Sue and Sam hadn't told me, I would have never remembered!

We're at our weekly park date here. Kid C dressed all coolio like a fly girl. I wore a hat so she wanted to wear one. Hers was discarded shortly after she made her debut on the tan bark.

Baby R and his couterpart from down the street Baby I. Baby I is one year younger, but they really look alot alike. So of course, I think Baby I is one of the cutest babies I know! ;)

Super fly!

She was stoked that she could hang on her own, she demanded a photo. It came out pretty cute.

Here she is ready to practice her moves before the big show on Saturday.
Ballet rehearsal was on Tuesday, and I think that threw off my mojo. We didn't go to the beach, and I didn't blog.

Taffeta! Sequins! Tightly pinned hairbuns! It must be rehearsal day.
Kid C's class had pretty cute costumes, but *one* other class's trumped hers.
They had furry bear ears.
She really liked the make-p but after 1 1/2 hrs, she had rubbed most of it off. Just in time for the portraits to be taken. She made cuckoo faces in them, so I guess we won't be getting those.

Here is her "spelling crown" from www.pbskids.org. I couldnt find her "learning" book yesterday, so I told her we could do it on the computer. She played "Princess Presto's Spelling Game" and she spelled 5 words right (not as hard as it sounds) so they create a little crown that prints out. She was really excited about it.
There were some other super annoying "games" on the pbskids site that didn't teach anything, so beware. I would have fallen asleep if I didn't have to work the mouse and keyboard for her.

what is Raices music, anyway?

With Memorial Day, so comes Summer and we have real vacations planned this year.
One of which, as mentioned before is to Mexico and I wanted to download some quality latin music.
This is what I bought:

Baila Me by Gipsy Kings
La Nina de Puerta Obscura by Paco de Lucia & Ricardo Modrego
Papeles Mojados by Chambao
Ahi Estas Tu by Chambao
Noche Flamenca by Roger Scannura and Ritmo Flamenco
Tango Flamenco Armik
Pa Ti! by Flamenco sin Fronteras
Tormento Contigo by Chonci Heredia
Aire by Jose Merce

I liked most of the Gipsy Kings music, but I wanted to mix it up.

p.s. I found out what Raices music is too.

oh dear

Kevin and I were looking up the origins of Mothers Day and Fathers Day on Wikipedia when we found this little jewel:

In Germany Father's Day is celebrated differently from other parts of the world.[26][27] There are two terms and/or events of an older origin that while similar in name, have entirely different meanings. Vatertag, is always celebrated on Ascension Day (the Thursday forty days after Easter), which is a federal holiday. Regionally, it is also called men's day, Männertag, or gentlemen's day, Herrentag. It is tradition to do a males-only hiking tour with one or more smaller wagons, Bollerwagen, pulled by manpower. In the wagons are wine or beer (according to region) and traditional regional food, Hausmannskost, which could be Saumagen, Liverwurst, Blutwurst (Blood Sausage), vegetables, eggs, etc. Many men will use this holiday to get very drunk, to the point of having gangs of drunk people roaming the streets, causing much embarrasement to the German people who don't participate, and giving the holiday a very bad name in Germany.[28][27] Police and emergency services are in high alert during the day, and some left-wing and feminist groups have asked for the banning of the holiday.[28]

Some parts of Germany (such as Bavaria and the northern part of Germany) call this particular day "Vatertag", which is the literal equivalent to Father's Day.

That guy on the left isn't even German, I think he's South Korean or something.

cracka', what?

I just bought Cinderella II Dreams Come True on Half.com.

I don't even know me anymore.

My 3 year old's princess bandwagoning is too cute and innocent to deny.

I bought Cinderella II instead of the original, because she thinks the cat is too scary. (I know, I know)

I'm sure that one has very little conflict and she'll love it.

par-tay at the ...church?

Yes, we're young and hip, well kinda, and we're gonna have summer parties every saturday night.

I got to market it.

giant screen ad slide

(with print margins) the free din din card
I hope I get one of these.

One of two punch cards that for the price of 10 meals, you get 14.
And you feel fancy in the meantime.

The "family card" looks the same, only it's teal instead of puce*.

I mean, it looks like it's a cool place to be on Saturday night, right?

*I used puce in a sentence!!

Baby Tuesday

I'm covered in kids and it seems that Kevin is never coming home tonight.

These two will have to do for now.

Aaarrgghh!

Have you seen the Office episode in which "Kevin" talks about how hard he works on making his chili and then you watch him accidentally drop it all over the floor and he scrambles to shovel it up with file holders?

I just had that happen to me! But with these!

ALL OVER THE FLOOR! While they were wet, they slid off the pan while I was trying to put them in the fridge! And did I scoop them back up, even though they hit the ground hard with a big SPLAT? Yes I did. Now they are no longer separate balls, they are like a monkey-bread all smashed together.

We were going to give them to someone, but now they are no longer fit for others. I won't be beat by you, Gravity. I will chill them and eat them. Mostly because I couldn't bear to throw it all in the trash. They were not easy to make (despite what the recipe would lead you to believe)

my favorite thing to do

It's midnight and I did a friend's business cards and made her a blog to match, even though she totally didn't ask. It's just a compulsion and fun for me, so I stayed up to do it. And I'm gonna print and round the corners on a few cards she can use this weekend, but we'll get real ones printed soon.

Here's the blog

I wanted to name her business The Flour Power Baking Co. But she picked SweetTooth instead. Still not bad.

This was the card I made for that company name. Never flew out of the nest.
I think I'm gonna do a trade for Kid C's cake in September.

more designs

UPDATE: After review, I have to change the blue and orange photos in the "Missing the Point" image. I'm feeling lazy, but okay, I see their point. It's going to require more brain power...

Today I was feeling very yellow-blue contrast-y.

Summer Saturday night parties held every week for whoever.
This is just the banner, but there are more parts to it.

Our latest series. I was challenged to "do a design unlike any previous ones."
Voila, I think its pretty different.

Baby Tuesday

G'day.
These are photos of the usual suspects. This group of kids, is like a tiny version of Saved By The Bell or something. They are always together, because all of their parents are in the same small group (at church) and we all meet together every Thurs a.m. to play in the park. When someone has a birthday, the same crew comes. I have this fantasy that they will all grow up together until college. But the little girl in the pink hat (below) is moving to Canada with her family next month, so the dream is already broken.

They all spontaneously sat in a line to watch the skateboarders at the skate park.
Very Cali'.

Baby R didn't want to sit, as usual, he wanted to kick the ball while he watched.

Shirley Temple move right here. He then broke into song "Animal crackers in my soup..."

This was like the snack "trading floor." Lots of negotiation about sharing and who has what to offer.

Kid K, who's sitting next to Kid C now lives right around the corner.
I thought about it today, that if this was another country, we would probably stop by and see her every day.
But this is Sockswithsandalsland, so we just see her when we see the rest of the 'suspects.

Even kids have "personal space bubbles" I guess.

Kid A, in the front, I call him the "Fonzie" of the group. Everyone thinks he's so cool, because he can ride a bike, and he's the oldest (6 months older than Kid C). He also has some pretty awesome toys at his house. His family also lives down the street, but I don't know how long they'll live here. And he's homeschooled, so that dashes my dreams of him and Kid C walking to school together.

Not a great shot, but Kid CB looks so cute there in her green tankini that I left it in.

I try to look decent for the in-law events, but Kid C and I were out having fun getting our manicures and shopping that I lost track of time (I'm lost when I leave my cell at home by accident!). So I'm without jewelry and lipstick. I was tempted to photoshop it in, but I think that would be too crazy.
And since I've had kids, my head has merged into my neck like some muppet weightlifter. Annoying.

This rug he's sitting on, it's the backdoor mat. He just camped himself out on it so everyone had to trip over him.

I took these photos (or did Kevin?) and then he got moved.

I took about 8 of this pose, but the dogs and the humans wouldn't cooperate at the same time. So I have posted this huggy pic, and the dogs are totally oblivious.

After the strawberry pie was served, Baby R's shirt looked like something out of a B Horror movie, so I just took it off. I did have another one. But he really likes to show of his little "guns" so I let him go around like Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Atmosphere shot. From left to right, Kevin's cousin, grandfather, grandmother, uncle and dad.

I always thought "mother-daughter" outfits were super super nerdy.
But when I bought this dress at Old Navy, I really wanted them to have an adult sized one to match.
It's so cute. I always push her to wear it.

She's over-cheesing here.

I really wish I had brought my camera to the Cinco De Mayo party we went to on Saturday. It was a breakthrough moment for us as a family, because the whole party was young families (and by that I mean the parents were young too) and all the kids were the same age. It was a rockin' party and I'm so glad we made it. I immediately Facebook friended some people I met there and now I feel like I have the power to host a party like that in the future. Although we don't have a deck or a backdoor that doesn't connect to a bedroom, but I'll brainstorm on that.
Ah affinity. It makes me happy.

the great wall [of] debate

I painted this art-sign for the cross we had on stage for Easter. And of all the things I've made, I thought "this would look cool on our wall."

I come to find out that while Kevin doesn't think it's ugly, he sure as hell doesn't want it on our wall.

I think it makes the green stripes, red chair and black furniture kind of make sense together.
I'm not sure, but if I were to guess I would say that Kevin thinks it looks insane.

As you can see, I hung it up, even though he's totally mad at me for doing it. I told him that I would take it down when he's home, but so far I've been too lazy to do that.

I fear that I might come home and he will have encouraged the cat to poop on it or something.

Everyone always gets on my case that none of my art is on the wall, and now I want to put something up, and it got shut down.

I'll just bide my time until the cat poop happens, and enjoy it while I can.

Baby Tuesday

The crib has been disassembled and taken out of Baby R's room!
And in it's place, he has a new "KURA" bed.
We found that if you turn the ladder side towards the wall, the top bunk is unreachable-- handy!
I think he'll be fine in there in another 6 months or a year. As you can see, it's pretty short.

Kevin hadn't put the support slats on the top bunk yet, here. Three cheers for Kevin putting it together! I tried but I can't handle more than 10 steps, I get overwhelmed.

Kid C was bonkers about the bed. She was certain that we would change our minds and let her sleep on the top bunk.
She wanted to share the bottom bunk with Baby R last night and he didn't mind so we let that go on for about 45 minutes, and then of course, we had to separate them because Kid C is a major busybody and Baby R just wants to be left alone.
It's very Edith & Archie Bunker, their relationship.

That's pizza sauce on his cheek. You can't quite see the big mark on his head where he fell yesterday morning. But the new bed made him forget about all that.

This is the crib mattress that I let them use as a trampoline while Kevin built the bed in the other room.
Honestly, I could have just let him sleep on that for a few months.
But it looked really refugee camp to me, so we put the bed in there, for my conscience.

He kept "cheese"ing so I kept taking pics.

That big roll is the mattress that I bought. It's thinner than the crib mattress actually, but hey, he doesn't weigh very much.

I don't' remember what they were looking at on the laptop...

...but we're short on pics this week...

...so all three shots made the cut. ;)

And now a giant cache of videos that I was too lazy to post last week:

Mom, the slip n' slide was a hit! Well, with Kid C it was anway. Baby R was a little intimidated. He did a few slides and promptly decided it was unsafe, ha.

Baby R in the eBay jumphouse. He's wearing the brown paisley shirt.

Take two of R in the jumphouse.

Live action of the face painting.

Cupcake flick.

I took this one last night, it's kinda dark, and they had mostly settled down by then but I tried to catpure the moment anyhow.

my dream come true!

I have wanted one of these signs for years! I've wanted a "sorry/thanks" sign actually. This company makes a face only one and that's just not enough. I need the words too.

This is now the only item on my Christmas List and remain that way for the next 7 months.
