Oh no!!

My orthodontist refuses to do porcelain braces!!!!

If I had known this 6 months ago, I may not have agreed to do braces.

I know it sounds terribly vain, but I'm seriously considering using another orthodontist that will agree to do non-metal brackets. I made a consultation/second opinion visit with another dentist for tomorrow.

Public opinion, please!

Am I crazy? That I'm willing to leave a dentist I love over two years of "tin grin"?

I have two weeks to decide....

(aaaaa!!!)

If they are the SAME price go with the "pretty" ones. Otherwise, stay away from metal detectors. Mom

it's your mouth and you have to live with them - get a second opinion/go with a different dentist! i like the porcelain ones too - nothing wrong with not wanting a bunch of metal in your mouth :o)

What are your dentist's reasons for not doing porcelain? Are they the same as the "clear" braces? Go with your gut.

I can't believe he doesn't do them! He's so up on new technology for EVERYTHING else he does...why'd he say no?

He said they break all the time and they just suck to use.
I believe him, but at the same time I don't care, and I want to be pretty.

screw him --- it is all about porcelain! Go get a second opin'. I mean...metal mouth....wrong answer. Ps. Mine never broke. And if they are a pain to use...that is what you are paying the big bucks for. Stupid.

i went with the clear braces, and then ended up having to wear them LONGER and STILL had to get the metal ones put on afterwards.. the porcelain ones did not work as well as they had hoped - so, not only did it extend the time i was in braces, i had to wear the metal ones anyways!! what about invisalign?

I had porcelain braces and I had no problems with them (with the exception of chipping one on the edge of a pool once, but it was still usable and did not have to be replaced). Beware that eating pizza or drinking sodas and coffees and teas can stain your clear bands yellowish, but still leave them better looking than metal. Plus, I didn't have a problem of them cutting up my lips, just the wires in the back which is inevitable. I believe a comparison would be similar to, "yes you can get metal ugly silver fillings, but when you can pay a teensy bit more for a better looking product....why not?" I'd shop around for an ortho who will do them, if that is what you wanted. You can still use your favored dentist as that, your dentist. Let an orthodontist do your braces.

That sounds like a cruel way to get you back to the horrors of Jr. High.
